SRC Walk for Love
This year, the SRC have chosen to support the valuable work of the Mary Potter Foundation, a local charity founded in 1987. The Mary Potter Foundation undertakes amazing work caring for adults who are seriously ill and supporting their families. Through the work of the SRC, we will explore how different therapies such as music, massage, beauty treatments, pet visits, and creative arts can help improve the quality of someone’s life, making each day a little brighter – Living every day, every hour.
SRC members are busy organising what will be one of their biggest events this year. All children at SPW, from Foundation to Year 7, will take part in a ‘Walk for Love’ event. This is a key event for the Mary Potter Foundation and takes place in North Adelaide the weekend before our planned event. In order that the whole school community can take part, we have decided to hold our own event at school.
Date: Friday 26 May
Time: 1.30 – 2.30pm
Who: Children from Foundation to Year 7 will participate. All parents and friends of the SPW community are invited to attend.
Location: Meeting at Braested Oval. Children and staff will walk from the school, down Pier Street to the Esplanade and then along to Moseley Square before returning to school.
Further Details: The procession will be led by the SRC who will carry banners advertising the purpose of our walk. Classes will also carry placards bearing key messages.
Purchase T-shirts for the Event
To make our event as fun as possible, children, staff and parents are encouraged to walk in ‘SPW and WFL t-shirts’. These t-shirts can be bought from school using the order form which can be found on Skoolbag or through Qkr! All orders should be placed by Wednesday 10 May. No orders after this date will be accepted. All money raised by the sale of t-shirts will go directly to the Mary Potter Foundation. It would be fantastic if all members of the school community, children, staff and parents, united by wearing these t-shirts and showing their support of this worthwhile charity.
T-shirt orders now closed – thanks to all who purchased.
Walk For Love Donations
As well as walking for love, we would like to show our love for those who those who are ill and their families who support them. Children are encouraged to seek donations from family, friends and neighbours. Donations can be brought on the day and given to class teachers. Alternatively donations can be made directly on the SPW fundraising page by clicking here.
How Will My Support Help?
This event will be a fantastic opportunity for the SPW community to stand together and show their support for a cause, which is an important message for our children. The money which we raise will certainly go some way to providing support.
- $20 could help supply a visiting family lunch for day.
- $100 could help stock the family kitchen with the basics or buy a bag of groceries.
- $120 could help fund a patient’s birthday or milestone anniversary celebration.
- $300 could brighten the day for everyone with a chance to enjoy themed days in the Hospice such as the celebration of AFL Grand Final Day or Melbourne Cup.
- $820 could help support one week of complementary therapy in the Hospice.
- $1,260 could help support the cost of medical care along with additional programs such as music therapy and massage therapy for one patient for a week in the Hospice.
What a massive difference the SPW community could make!
We very much hope that you are able to join us for what will no doubt prove to be a fun filled afternoon. If you have any questions about this event or any of the work of the SRC please do not hesitate to contact Kerry Ramsay.
