At the end of 2017, SPW was successful in securing a Telstra Kids Grant. The grant has allowed us to purchase multiple OSMO Base and Reflector sets and OSMO Coding Awbie Games for use within our Year 1 classrooms.
OSMO, combines technology with physical play, to develop digital technologies knowledge, understanding and process skills. Digital Technologies has been identified as one of the emerging areas of learning, important for children as we prepare them for their future. By using this interactive technology we’re hoping to see numerous outcomes, including coding fundamentals, logic and problem solving skills in coding language, developing computational thinking and reasoning and providing opportunities for collaborative problem solving.
At the heart of every Telstra Kids Grant is a Telstra employee who nominates a local community activity they value. Our sincere thanks go to Telstra’s Peter Mudge, who is a parent at SPW, who applied for this donation on our behalf. Thanks also to Geoff Bilney, Head of Future Schooling, for supporting this project, ensuring teachers and students are getting access to amazing resources.
Since 2002, the Telstra Kids Fund has contributed millions of dollars to thousands of community projects for kids. We’re thrilled to be a part of this program. Thanks to the Telstra Kids Fund for supporting SPW as we investigate coding from the Early Years.
We’re looking forward to getting started with the OSMO Coding kits in classrooms later this term.
