SPW supports AnglicareSA because it is the Anglican Church of Adelaide’s main “service organisation”. It is also the leading provider of social services in South Australia.

The local branch of the national Anglicare Australia organisation began in South Australia in 1860 when Mrs Julia Farr opened an orphanage for girls aged five to 12.

AnglicareSA today works in partnership with many Anglican schools and churches to continue showing God’s love for all people and to carry out Jesus’ command to “Love your neighbour as yourself” Mark 12: 31.

On behalf of the Anglican Church in Adelaide, AnglicareSA provides a range of support to South Australia’s most vulnerable people: Individuals, families and communities.

Areas in which the organisation works include:

  • Community and affordable housing
  • Care for at-risk children and young people
  • Disability support services
  • Youth work
  • Foster care
  • Mental health accommodation and outreach
  • Counselling services
  • Child care
  • Community capacity building and low income support
  • Aged care: Residential, community- and home-based services
  • Refugee and migrant settlement.

How does SPW help AnglicareSA?
SPW helps AnglicareSA with donations of good quality used clothing, footwear and linen. Donations can be left in the permanent bin at the back of the Chapel, accessed via the Partridge Street Car Park.Bin

The Foundation students also collect toys for AnglicareSA as part of their Unit of Inquiry into toys in Term 3.Star Bear 2

This year we also collected almost $2 000 by sponsoring Mrs Ramsay and Mr Dow who abseiled 23 storeys down the InterContinental Hotel in North Adelaide as part of the Abseil for AnglicareSA. The money was used for AnglicareSA’s work with homeless people and Aboriginal young people.Nearly there

Christmas Hamper Collection
SPW also participates in AnglicareSA’s annual Christmas hamper collection. In Week 5 this term, the Christmas tree will go up in the Chapel and we invite members of the SPW community to leave donations of non-perishable food items or toys under the tree.AnglicareSA Xmas hamper collection

These will be used for the Christmas hampers that AnglicareSA gives to families in need. For more information, please speak to the Chaplain.
