This term we celebrated the Dads with men from our SPW community coming together for Derby Day and special gifts for Father’s Day.

Yet again Covid-19 turned our plans upside down and unfortunately due to the 7-day lockdown in July we were forced to cancel the Christmas in July parents event to be held at Brighton Surf Lifesaving Club. Thank you to Sharee Morley for all her hard work in planning and organising this event that sadly could not proceed. We all hope that 2022 will allow us to hold an event of this type.

We were also disappointed not to feel confident to host the annual PFA Father’s Day Breakfast. Instead we offered families the opportunity to purchase a mug, pair of socks or a soap on a rope for their Dad. 345 gifts were ordered, packaged, tagged and delivered to classrooms. Thank you to everyone who took up this offer and thanks in particular to Emma Lawrence and Sharyn Taylor for co-ordinating and to Kate Lumsden for sourcing the stock. Although not intended to be a fundraiser, a profit of $640 was made.

On Saturday, September 11, 56 men from our community gathered for a Dad’s Derby Day at Morphettville Racecourse. Josh Morrison organised a fantastic day that included entry and an all-inclusive package of food and drink, and from all reports, was enjoyed by everyone. From ticket sales and silent auction items an incredible $2840 was raised for the PFA.

At the July meeting it was voted that the PFA would fund the cost of building 2 shelter sheds to be erected on the northern side of McKenzie Oval near the Karen Whelan Netball Courts. The proceeds from the Monday afternoon BBQs has gone a long way towards paying for these structures so thank you to everyone who purchases a sausage, icy-pole or juice box and to all those who volunteer to run it and especially to Kylie Hender who co-ordinates it.

We are looking forward to a fabulous Term 4 with a Kytons Christmas treats fundraiser, the Christmas Raffle and much loved whole school Christmas Lunch.

Thank you to Kate Hobart and Kimberley Hutchinson, PFA Co-Presidents for sharing this story.
