Staff Community Service Day

16 August 2024

A Heartfelt Kickoff to Term 3

For the Term 3 pupil free day our dedicated staff gathered for the morning to give back to the community with a Community Service Day. This day of altruism and teamwork started in the Chapel with an opening prayer, setting a reflective and unified tone for the day ahead.

A Day of Diverse Contributions
Staff members then spent the first couple of hours of the day branching out to various locations, each group eager to make a positive impact.

Cooking Food to Freeze for Emergency Meals
A team of culinary enthusiasts headed to AnglicareSA, The Magdeline Centre, while another team rolled up their sleeves in the SPW Canteen kitchen, this time for the Salvation Army. Their culinary skills provided emergency meals for those in need, ensuring that many would receive not just food, but also a sense of community and care. Our partnership with the Salvation Army continued on from our special school lunch fundraiser held in conjunction with The Salvation Army Emergency Services on the last day of School for Term 2.

Volunteering at Foodbank SA
At Foodbank SA, our volunteers sorted and packed food items, contributing to the fight against hunger. Their efforts helped streamline the process of getting food to those who need it most.

Cleaning Up the Patawalonga
Environmental stewardship was the focus for a team tasked with cleaning up the Patawalonga. Armed with gloves and bags, they worked to remove litter and debris, helping to keep this waterway clean.

Packing Care Packages
Another group assembled to pack care packages. These packages, filled with essential items, will provide much-needed support to families and children facing hardship. The meticulous attention to detail and love poured into each package showcased our staff’s dedication to aiding those in difficult situations. These packages along with the hand crafted gift tags were then delivered to Treasure Boxes and the Salvation Army.

Gift Tag Making
Creativity was in full swing with a group dedicated to making gift tags. These small but significant pieces will add a personal touch to the care packages, spreading joy and kindness. Each tag crafted was a testament to the thoughtful spirit of our community.

A Unified Effort
Our Community Service morning was a resounding success, demonstrating the power of coming together to serve others. Each staff member’s contribution, whether through cooking, packing, cleaning, or crafting, played a vital role in making a difference. With Service one of our core values, this day of service not only benefited those we helped but also strengthened our bonds and reaffirmed our commitment to fostering a caring and compassionate community.

As we dived back into our planning and preparations for Term 3 for the remainder of the day, the spirit of this morning inspired us in our daily endeavors, reminding us of the profound impact we can make when we unite for a common cause.
