Little Hands, Big Hearts: Reception’s Contribution to Student Wellbeing
As part of our school-wide Service Learning initiative, the Reception students have taken on a thoughtful and creative project—designing and building a sensory wall for The Zone, our school’s wellbeing room.
Service Learning encourages all students to take part in activities that benefit others, and our youngest learners embraced this challenge with enthusiasm. The Reception classes worked together to create a sensory wall using recycled materials, turning everyday items into something both useful and meaningful.
With fabric offcuts, straws, pop-sticks, cotton buds, sponges, and more, the children explored different textures, shapes, and colours. They sorted, glued, tied, and assembled the materials with great care, learning how teamwork and creativity can make a real difference.
The finished wall will be installed in The Zone, where students go for quiet time, mindfulness, or emotional support. The sensory wall will provide a calming, hands-on experience for anyone who needs a moment to reset.
Through this project, our Reception students learned not only about recycling and design, but also about kindness, empathy, and the importance of supporting others in our school community.
Well done, Reception—we’re proud of you!
