Assistant Accountant
St Peters Woodlands Grammar School is seeking an experienced and motivated Assistant Accountant to join our Finance team. This is an important role supporting the Business Director across all aspects of accounting and financial administration, helping to ensure the smooth financial operation of the School.
The Assistant Accountant will have primary responsibility for school billing and accounts receivable, monthly financial reporting and providing day-to-day support to the Finance team, including backup for payroll.
This position is offered for a 12 month period, working full-time for 45 weeks of the year.
Key Responsibilities
- Process all billing for school tuition fees and other charges.
- Manage billing and government reporting for the Early Learning Centre (ELC) and Out of School Hours Care (OSHC).
- Communicate with parents regarding outstanding fee accounts and follow up payments in a professional and sensitive manner.
- Work with the Project Team to implement new accounting and payroll systems as part of a school-wide administration system rollout.
- Prepare month-end financial reports to draft stage, including Income & Expenditure statements, Balance Sheet, asset registers, and depreciation; assist with year-end financial reporting.
- Prepare monthly cashflow forecasts and identify bank overdraft requirements as needed.
- Monitor budget accounts and expenditure, identifying and reporting any unusual variances to the Business Director.
- Assist with the preparation of the annual budget, prepare quarterly BAS returns and conduct general ledger and bank reconciliations.
- Assist with daily banking and petty cash processing and reconciliations.
- Provide day-to-day support to Payroll and Accounts Payable staff and cross-train as backup for payroll.
About You
- You are an experienced and capable finance professional with a strong understanding of accounting processes and have a proactive, collaborative approach to your work. You are organised, confident and able to manage your responsibilities independently while contributing positively to a team environment.
- Previous experience in an accounting or finance role, preferably in a school (not essential).
- Tertiary qualification in accounting or finance and have attained or working towards CPA/CA.
- Strong attention to detail and excellent organisational skills.
- High level of competence with accounting processes and standards.
- Professional communication skills and the ability to deal sensitively with confidential information.

OSHC Qualified Educators
We are seeking passionate, energetic & organised leaders to join our OSHC leadership team. Our OSHC Qualified Educators are responsible for assisting in the management of the day-to-day operations of the OSHC and ensuring a high standards of student care, service delivery, cleanliness and operational efficiency. The service which is open 49 weeks a year, is a valuable and integral part of our school and we welcome children from Reception to Year 6. This is a casual position paying $39 per hour.
Key skills and knowledge include:
- Demonstrated ability to interact with children and families in a positive, sensitive and respectful manner.
- Ability to model and develop positive behaviour strategies with children.
- Demonstrated ability to build positive relationships with children and foster their social and emotional development.
