A Celebration of Stories, Imagination, and Community

Book Week 2025 – Book An Adventure

“It’s the best day of the year!”
This joyful phrase echoed through the school as students, staff, and parents came together to celebrate one of the most loved events on the calendar — Book Week Parade Day.

The day was bursting with colour, excitement, and creativity, with students dressed as their favourite book characters and the entire community sharing in the magic of storytelling. Following the parade, students enjoyed a range of special activities including a Book Week assembly and buddy reading session.

A School-Wide Literary Adventure
Leading up to Book Week, with the theme Book an Adventure, classrooms were buzzing with literary exploration. Students in Early Childhood closely examined the shortlisted books in their category — judging the story, blurb, and illustrations — and cast their votes for a winner, mimicking the process used by the CBCA Book Week judges.

There was much anticipation as the school gathered to hear both the SPW-voted winner and the official CBCA announcement. Interestingly, our school community disagreed with the national judges — voting Spiro by Anna McGregor as the winner, while the CBCA award went to The Wobbly Bike by Darren McCallum.

Older students in Years 4 to 6 also explored the CBCA shortlisted books in other categories, submitting thoughtful reviews and participating in discussions. A special congratulations goes to Year 5 students Eden and Elise, named our Book Week Reviewers of the Month!

Creativity, Competition & Community Spirit
The build-up to Book Week brought extra fun and surprises. The library went a little “quackers” as ducks — and later, frogs — mysteriously escaped throughout the school! Students were challenged to find and return the tiny animals to their designated jars, with each year level competing to collect the most. From the playground to the music rooms, the hunt was on! The competition was fierce but friendly, and in the end, Year 4 emerged victorious.

The library was alive with activity throughout Book Week, especially at lunchtimes. Students engaged with the shortlisted books through craft, storytelling, and hands-on activities. We’re especially grateful to our dedicated Year 5 and Year 6 Library Leaders and staff, who took on extra responsibilities to ensure the week ran smoothly.

The Bookmark and Badge Design Competition also saw some fantastic entries, with the winners announced during the Book Week assembly.
