Year 2 Students Step Back in Time at Uleybury School Museum

At the end of Term 2 the Year 2 classes swapped their modern classrooms for a taste of school life in the early 1900s during their excursion to the Uleybury School Museum. Arriving dressed in period-appropriate clothing, students were greeted by the stern yet entertaining Mr Squire, who wasted no time in introducing them to the strict routines of the past.

The day began with hand cleanliness checks, followed by the singing of God Save the King and marching into class in perfect lines. Once seated, students practiced neat cursive writing using slate boards and ink wells—careful not to blot their work under the watchful eye of Mr Squire and his ever-present cane.

Outside the classroom, the fun continued with traditional playground games such as quoits, stilts, hopscotch, and clapping games, giving students a glimpse into how children once played without modern toys or technology.

Although the journey to and from Uleybury was a long one, it was well worth the trip. The experience brought history to life, helping students connect their classroom learning with the sights, sounds, and routines of a bygone era.
