Back on the old stomping ground!
In 1923, the Law Smith family generously and graciously bequeathed their land, at Partridge Street, Glenelg for the purpose of education – known then as Woodlands Church of England Girls Grammar School.
Throughout 2023, St Peter’s Woodlands have hosted events to celebrate the schools that have inhabited the grounds over the last 100 years and provided a nurturing environment in which students grow, learn and form important life-long friendships.
Celebrations of this wonderful milestone have included student inspired artwork, published stories from old scholars, a special St Margaret’s Day service and afternoon tea, the launch honouring the reimagined Elaine Balfour Ogilvy Memorial Scholarship and her heroics and culminated with the ‘Back to School’ event on 21 October.
The day was an opportunity for over 300 Woodlands’ old scholars to come together at St Margaret’s Chapel to enjoy nibbles and drinks and reconnect with old classmates and teachers. There were school tours of Law Smith Building and the old boarding house led by St Peter’s Woodlands’ students, memorabilia from Woodlands’ school days on display, a performance by the St Peter’s Woodlands Chapel Choir, artwork from SPW students, and a sneak peek of the Elaine Balfour-Ogilvy Memorial. It was wonderful to have so many people attended this truly memorable and happy event.
