In August of this year four St Peter’s Woodlands students were successful in the Kids in Space Program.
The team’s hard work paid off when their project competed against 13 other schools from South Australia, earning first place in the state competition.
The competition asked students to create something to help astronauts live and work in space or use space technologies to address a problem on Earth. Students, Kaylah, Arabella, Sophia and Hallie’s, winning submission was a Hot Drops lozenge dispenser, offering astronauts a convenient way to consume chili drops during missions. An idea inspired during their visit to the Australian Space Discovery Centre in Adelaide, where they learned about the unique challenges faced by astronauts.
This incredible achievement allowed the students to present their project at the National Kids in Space Showcase in November, held at the Australian Space Discovery Centre. Here, they joined 10 other schools from across Australia, demonstrating their project’s potential and engaging in meaningful discussions with other young innovators.
The SPW students were thrilled to meet Katherine Bennell-Pegg, Australian astronaut, who shared her inspiring journey into space exploration. This memorable encounter deepened their passion for STEM and reinforced their aspirations to contribute to the future of space exploration.
Congratulations on an amazing journey of problem solving, invention and discovery. We are so proud of how they presented themselves, embracing the challenge of presenting their project and even talking about it on radio.
