Generosity for generations to come

St Peter’s Woodlands in Glenelg has received a record donation from former old scholar and renowned South Australian philanthropist Dr Pamela Wall OAM to build a state-of-the art multi-purpose centre.

Principal Helen Finlay said Pamela’s contribution towards the new multi-purpose centre for sport and performing arts is the largest individual donation in the school’s history.

“Pamela’s been a great friend and supporter of St Peter’s Woodlands and we’re incredibly grateful for her donation towards this new building which will reflect the extraordinary standard of our sports and arts programs here at St Peter’s Woodlands,” Helen said.

“Pamela is a passionate advocate for the arts so it’s fitting this multi-purpose centre will be the new creative and sporting heart of our school – a place where every student can develop their abilities and a place for our community to come together.

“I’m excited to announce the building will be known as the Dr Pamela Wall Centre in honour of Pamela’s generous donation, her love for the arts and the lifelong connection she’s maintained with her former school.”

Pamela, who celebrates her 90th birthday in July, boarded at the school for six years during the 1940s when it was known as Woodlands Church of England Girls Grammar School and remembers it being a ‘very happy time’.

“This was my home from the age of 10 to 16 and helped make me who I am,” Pamela said. “Some of my fondest memories were made at this school and I hope my contribution to the new multi-purpose centre will deliver an outstanding facility that brings students joy for generations to come.”

Dr Pamela Wall’s donation towards the new multi-purpose centre builds on the $480,000 raised for the building project last year through the school’s inaugural Giving Day. The multi-purpose sports and performing arts centre has the capacity to seat 500 people and will be equipped with the latest sound, lighting and staging technology to host the school’s annual musical and awards night.

The building has been designed by Australian Institute of Architects State President and Echelon Studio Director Chris Morley.
