10 Mindsets to Transform our Teaching and Student’s Learning

A three year partnership
It has been three years of a fabulous partnership with renowned educator Dr Ron Ritchhart who led a full-day presentation for our teachers and visiting teachers from other schools across the state. It focused on “Cultures of Thinking in Action” and the transformative power of the 10 mindsets in education.

Instilling curiosity and critical thinking in students
Dr Ron Ritchhart, a senior researcher at Harvard University’s Project Zero, provided our teachers with valuable insights and practical strategies to enhance student learning and engagement and how we can foster a culture of thinking within classrooms.

Throughout the day, educators participated in interactive workshops, developing an understanding of the importance of teacher dialogue and discussing how to create environments where students feel safe to share their thoughts and questions. He emphasised the importance of instilling curiosity and critical thinking mindsets, which are vital for our students’ growth.

Reframing teacher approaches to nurture a love for learning
One of the presentation’s key takeaways was that teaching is not just about delivering content; it’s about nurturing a love for learning. The 10 mindsets Dr Ritchhart introduced will help our teachers reframe their approaches, ensuring that every student is encouraged to think deeply and creatively.

Together developing lifelong learners
Over the three years of deep professional learning of understanding and implementing Visible Thinking Routines and then integrating these practices into our daily teaching, we will enhance academic outcomes and empower our students to become lifelong learners.

We encourage you to talk with your children about what they’re learning in school and how they can apply these new thinking skills in their everyday lives. Together, we can foster a vibrant learning community that supports our students’ growth and development.
