Welcoming Six Fluffy Friends

A Little Fluff, A Lot of Love: Welcome Our Chickens!

In Term 1, Week 6, Year 5 student Kade generously donated six chickens to the school. Our new additions include a mix of Silky Bantams and Buff Orpingtons.

While the chickens settle into their new home at SPW, Kade and Mr Pearce are caring for them, ensuring they are safe, well-fed, and adjusting comfortably to their environment. The school has also invested in an automated coop door, allowing the chickens to roam freely during the day while remaining safe and secure at night.

Once the chickens are fully settled and a little older, the Nature Guardians—who help care for our school every Wednesday lunchtime—will take turns maintaining the coop, ensuring it is clean and that the chickens have plenty of food and water.

Kade has a long history with chickens, with eleven at home, and says he can’t remember a time without them. He describes them as fluffy, curious, and full of personality, and it’s clear from watching him care for them that he shares a strong bond with them.

Chickens have always held a special place at SPW. When their arrival was announced at assembly, it was met with a huge cheer, and they have since captured the hearts of both staff and students.

With six chickens to name, students were invited to submit suggestions. Introducing our new chicks names:
