Special Chapel services to send out the first semester of 2023.
As is the tradition at SPW, passed down from Woodlands CEGGS, the school gathered in the chapel to acknowledge St Margaret. We welcomed Woodlands old scholars to the service, who also gathered for their annual AGM afterwards.
The service began with a procession of banners as Pam Kirkham played St Margaret’s hymn on the organ. Rev’d Andrew spoke about St Margaret and her importance as a patron saint particularly through her care of children.
The service also acknowledged those students who have given great service to the Chapel Choir and SPW Band over the years. Each student was awarded a certificate, and those who have served for three years or more, were gifted a Dymocks voucher, generously supplied by the Old Scholar’s Association. The six music captains for Show Choir, Chapel Choir and the SPW Band were also formally announced to the school community.
A few weeks later the school gathered again for a special communion and baptism service, which would also be Rev’d Michele’s last chapel service for SPW.
Hugo in Year 3 was baptised in the service and 4 other students had been baptised over the previous weekend at St Peter’s church. In all, eleven students across Years 3, 4 and 5 were admitted to communion by Rev’d Michele and Rev’d Andrew.
The school community, including the students’ loved ones, were there to witness the special occasion and congratulate them as they continue their growing relationship with God.
It has been a pleasure to have Rev’d Michele Yuen as Chaplain over the past four years and we wish her all the best as she embarks on her next chapter.
