Year 6 students top off their final year with DARE and Courage.
The Year 6 students are nearing the end of their journey at St Peter’s Woodlands. In their final year it has been wonderful to watch them wholeheartedly embrace the many opportunities provided by the DARE – Year 6 Graduate Diploma program. This transformative experience has celebrated their growth, resilience, and contributions to their community. This term has included two highly anticipated experiences, the Canberra Tour and the Passion Project presentation evening.
Canberra Tour: Exploring Our Nation’s Capital
In Term 4, students embarked on an unforgettable four-day trip to Canberra, immersing themselves in Australian democracy and history. Key highlights included meeting the Governor-General at Government House, cycling around Lake Burley Griffin, and enjoying hands-on learning at Questacon. A particularly moving moment was their visit to the Australian War Memorial, where they learned about former Woodland’s student Elaine Balfour Ogilvy, who served during World War II.

Passion Projects: A Celebration of Creativity and Growth
Throughout the year, Year 6 students have poured their hearts into their Passion Projects—personalised journeys of discovery designed to build skills, confidence, and independence while encouraging resilience and creativity.
The process began with students reflecting on their interests and brainstorming achievable, exciting ideas. From there, they developed plans, identified steps, and tackled challenges, documenting their progress in journals and photos.
In Term 4, students prepared exhibits to showcase their projects to parents, peers, and the wider community. The final presentations were nothing short of extraordinary, offering a glimpse into their creativity and dedication.
Projects included an incredible array of ideas, such as designing computer games, building veggie gardens and possum boxes, crafting cricket bats and bird toys, creating essential oils and jewellery, producing artwork, and experimenting with cooking. The talent and passion on display were truly inspiring!
Graduation Awaits
Next week, we look forward to celebrating our Year 6 students at their Graduation, marking the culmination of their DARE Graduate Diploma program and time at SPW. It’s an exciting milestone as they prepare to step confidently into their next chapter.
