A vision for SPW
As I begin my journey as Principal of St Peter’s Woodlands, I do so with deep gratitude, excitement and optimism. SPW is in a strong and stable position as a recognised leader in early and primary years education, with an outstanding reputation for excellence, innovation and care. As we look towards our third decade, my vision is to build upon these strong foundations while continuing to evolve and inspire future generations of learners.
Importance of Early Years and building the foundations for learning
I believe we can never underestimate the importance of the early and primary years. These years shape a child’s sense of self, establish lifelong learning habits, and build the foundations for future success. As a stand-alone independent Anglican primary school, SPW is uniquely positioned to invest all of its resources, expertise and energy into providing an exceptional early and primary years education.
More than an Academic Education
I also recognise that families want more than simply a strong academic education for their children. They want their children to feel happy, supported and encouraged to be themselves; to develop kindness, confidence and resilience; to feel safe asking questions and trying new things; and to build meaningful friendships and a genuine love of learning. These aspirations resonate deeply with my own vision for SPW and will continue to guide the way we think about every child’s experience at our school.
Early Years Learning
My vision is to ensure every child experiences a learning journey that is purposeful, engaging and deeply connected to their stage of development. Having begun my leadership journey as Head of Early Years, I am passionate about the critical importance of early childhood education and remain committed to ensuring our bespoke facilities and programs continue to be extraordinary.
Immersive Deep Learning Experiences
Looking ahead, I am excited to further strengthen our focus on inquiry, child agency and meaningful relationships. Contemporary research highlights the power of slow pedagogy and deep learning experiences, and I see tremendous opportunities to extend these principles across the school through authentic, immersive programs that foster curiosity, creativity and a love of learning.
Wellbeing and Relationships
At the heart of SPW are our people. Our exceptional educators know their students deeply and are committed to helping every child grow and flourish. My vision is to continue strengthening a culture where relationships matter, wellbeing is prioritised, and every child feels known, valued and supported. Through our evolving wellbeing framework, we will continue to create intentional opportunities for connection, belonging and personal growth.
Personalised Learning
Personalised learning will remain a key priority. Our commitment to providing an Education Support Officer in every classroom from Reception to Year 4, and dedicated support throughout Years 5 and 6, reflects our belief that every child deserves to be known, supported and challenged as an individual. This investment enables our teachers to design learning experiences that respond to each child’s strengths, needs and stage of development, helping every learner to thrive.
Strong Foundations Learning
At the same time, we will continue our strong commitment to ensuring all students develop deep knowledge and confidence in literacy and numeracy through research based teaching practices. Alongside these foundations, we will create rich opportunities for inquiry, creativity and exploration across all learning areas.
I am particularly excited by opportunities to expand immersive learning experiences and nature a culture of curiosity, thinking and wonder throughout the school.
Discovering Passions
SPW students already benefit from an exceptional breadth of specialist programs, including Japanese, Music, Physical Education, STEM, Digital Technology, Health, Art and Library. Together, these experiences encourage students to explore their interests, uncover new strengths and develop the knowledge, skills and confidence to make a positive contribution to their world. Our focus will be on building on this strong foundation and creating meaningful connections between learning, creativity and real-world experiences.
Leadership and Graduating with Confidence
As students move through the upper primary years, we will continue creating meaningful leadership opportunities that help them understand their strengths and recognise their capacity to make a difference. I want every student to graduate from SPW knowing who they are, understanding what they are capable of, and feeling confident about the next stage of their educational journey.
Looking beyond the school gates, my vision is for SPW to continue growing as a connected and outward-looking school. We will strengthen relationships with organisations, people and places that enrich learning and broaden our students’ understanding of service, stewardship and citizenship. Through connections with St Peter’s Parish, local businesses, aged care residents, sporting clubs, cultural institutions and our natural coastal environment, students will have opportunities to engage with the world around them and understand that they are part of something bigger than themselves.
As Principal, my vision is simple: to honour the remarkable legacy of SPW while continually seeking opportunities to innovate, connect and grow. We will remain committed to exceptional teaching, strong relationships, student wellbeing and meaningful learning experiences. Most importantly, we will ensure that every child is known, valued and inspired.
The future of SPW is bright, and I am excited to work alongside our students, staff and families as we continue shaping a school that prepares young people not only for success in secondary school, but for lives of purpose, contribution and impact.
