The Junior Primary years at St Peter’s Woodlands are a time of wonder, exploration and growth. From the moment students step out of our Early Learning Centre or through our gates for the first time, they are welcomed into a nurturing and stimulating environment where their natural curiosity is encouraged, their individuality is celebrated, and their confidence begins to grow.

Our dedicated teachers foster a strong sense of belonging and guide students through the vital early years of formal schooling with care, creativity, and purpose.

A Focus on Foundations

In Reception to Year 2, we lay the groundwork for lifelong learning. Students are immersed in rich literacy and numeracy programs, supported by hands-on, play-based and inquiry-driven learning experiences. Through integrated units of inquiry, children learn to ask questions, think critically, and express themselves confidently.

We also nurture social and emotional growth, equipping students with the skills to build positive relationships, regulate their emotions, and collaborate effectively.

  • Specialist lessons in Music, Art, Japanese, PE, Digital Technologies, STEM (Year 2) and Library

  • Every second year, Reception to Year 2 students take to the stage in our Junior Musical—an inspiring opportunity to grow in confidence, creativity and teamwork.

Transition that Builds Confidence

Starting school is a big milestone—for both children and their families. Our transition process is carefully designed to make this journey smooth, positive and exciting.

Families are supported through:

  • A comprehensive Flying Start Program in the lead-up to Reception, including classroom visits and orientation sessions

  • Connection with Reception teachers and early years staff prior to starting

  • Strong communication between home and school during the early weeks

  • Close collaboration with our ELC team for students already attending the SPW Early Learning Centre
