Reflecting on 25 Years: SPW Staff Alumni Reunion
On Friday, August 30, St Peter’s Woodlands celebrated a significant milestone with the SPW Staff Alumni Reunion, marking 25 years of community, education, and growth. This special event brought together past and present staff members to reflect on the school’s incredible journey and the many achievements that have shaped SPW over the years.
Strong and lasting connections
The strong relationships among staff were evident through the presence of multiple generations of guests. This included the current Principal, Helen Finlay, the former Principal, Chris Prance, and Vivienne Hand, who served as a librarian at St Peter’s Glenelg before the school merger and later as Deputy to Principal Roger Taylor.
We were also joined by guests Natasha Cole and Rachel Forbes, who were once students taught by Angela Lovett at St Peter’s Glenelg. These enduring connections reflect a legacy that spans not just the past 25 years, but much longer. It speaks to a culture of connection, tradition, and loyalty to the institution’s past and its future.
Paying tribute to the school’s foundations
A highlight of the evening was the heartfelt speech by current Principal, Helen Finlay, who expressed her deep gratitude to those who laid the foundation for SPW. She spoke of the school’s enduring spirit and commitment to excellence, thanking those who came before for their dedication and hard work.
Former Deputy Principal, Viv Hand, offered touching memories, particularly recalling the first day St Peter’s Glenelg moved to the current campus with just 200 students. Her stories gave insight into the humble beginnings and the vision that drove the school’s growth into the vibrant learning community it is today.
The reunion also included heartfelt tributes to former Principals, Roger Taylor (dec.) and Chris Prance, both of whom played pivotal roles in shaping SPW’s values and educational standards.
Years of dedication and growth by long serving staff
Some staff members have been with SPW since its inception in 1999, while a significant number who joined just one year later in 2000 continue to contribute to the school’s thriving success. Special recognition goes to long-serving staff members who have been with the school 20 or more years, such as Angela Doan, Kate Gulliver, Tassie Mangos, Michelle Lewis, Gary Irvine, Andrew Pipprell and David Kennedy, who embody the dedication that has been a hallmark of SPW.
A warm celebration of memories
The evening was filled with laughter and reflection as we celebrated the legacy of St Peter’s Woodlands. From reconnecting with old friends to revisiting cherished memories, the event highlighted the bonds that continue to make SPW a special place for staff, students, and families alike.
As we look ahead to the next 25 years, we carry forward the SPW spirit that so many have helped create. Thank you to all who attended and made the reunion such a memorable and meaningful occasion.
