Celebrating the 2026 Elaine Balfour Ogilvy Memorial Scholarship Recipient
We are delighted to announce Year 5 student Scarlett as the 2026 recipient of the Elaine Balfour Ogilvy Memorial Scholarship.
Elaine Balfour Ogilvy Memorial Scholarship
First established in 1944, this scholarship was donated by the Old Scholars’ Association in memory of Lieutenant Elaine Balfour Ogilvy AANS, who lost her life during World War II. Since its inception, the scholarship has recognised excellence, service and commitment in young people, with over 87 students honoured to date. Discover more about Elaine’s story.
Originally a senior Woodlands academic scholarship, its eligibility broadened in recent years. It is now awarded annually to an SPW student entering Year 6, supporting their fees and honouring the Woodlands–SPW legacy.
The 2026 Scholarship Process
Interest in the scholarship remains strong, with 14 outstanding Year 5 applicants this year. Each candidate submitted a written letter of introduction and résumé before taking part in a short interview. During the interview, students are invited to speak about their achievements, passions, and contributions to school life, and to discuss their understanding of Elaine Balfour Ogilvy’s legacy. Congratulations to Scarlett
We extend our warmest congratulations to Scarlett Williams, whose thoughtful presentation, strong personal achievements and deep appreciation and knowledge of Elaine’s legacy impressed the panel.
Scarlett has expressed her excitement and pride in representing St Peter’s Woodlands at key commemorative events, including the Bangka Day Memorial Service in February 2026 and the ANZAC Day Dawn Service.
Later this year, Scarlett will also be formally presented with her scholarship certificate by Eve Balfour Ogilvy, Elaine’s niece, at the SPW Graduation and Awards Night—a meaningful connection to the family and the history this scholarship honours.
