Meet Wilbur: Our Wellbeing Dog Bringing Joy to Our School in 2024

We are thrilled to announce a wonderful partnership with the Dogs Connect Program, and a new era of wellbeing at our school with the introduction of our very own wellbeing dog, Wilbur. This initiative signifies the beginning of a holistic school-wide wellbeing program, enriching our community with the presence of an adored and invaluable member.

Meet Wilbur, an endearing Australian Cobberdog, a purebred Australian Labradoodle with a primary purpose as therapy or service dog who is set to become an integral part of our school community, contributing to the wellbeing of both students and staff. The Dogs Connect Program, a supportive partner in this endeavor, is guiding us through the careful and considerate implementation of this heartening initiative.

A dedicated team of staff, led by Mrs Sarah Noell, Deputy Principal and Head of Early Years, is at the forefront of this program. Wilbur will reside with Mrs Noell and her family, ensuring a supportive and loving environment for our new canine companion.

“Wilbur is a very loving and cuddly dog. He loves being near people. He has grown so fast. He was under 3kg when we got him, and now he is over 10kg in just 8 weeks!” shares Mrs Sarah Noell, our Deputy Principal and Head of Early Years.

Wilbur’s introduction, schedule, and training are meticulously managed, aligning with evidence-based practices and the highest standards. During the initial training period, we are focused on thorough preparations to ensure a seamless integration of our furry friend into our community.

“A playdate is on the horizon for Wilbur and his sister, who is training to be a wellbeing dog at another school. At home, Wilbur eats everything… the grass, sticks, bark, possum poo! Inside he eats the curtains, the couch, my shoes! He loves tummy rubs from Mr Noell and Patrick and Archie. We take him for walks, and he is learning how to walk in a straight line and not go around in circles,” Mrs Noell humorously adds.
