All In for Reconciliation Week
To mark the beginning of National Reconciliation Week, the St Peter’s Woodlands community gathered on Braested Oval for a special open gathering. Students from ELC to Year 6 came together for a meaningful morning of reflection, considering the importance of reconciliation and what it looks like within our community.
A highlight of the gathering was the whole-school Acknowledgement of Country, thoughtfully read by our dedicated year level RAP leaders. Together, we reflected on the beauty of Kaurna Country, recognising the sights, sounds and stories of this special place, guided by the teachings of Jade Brooks, a proud Kaurna and Narrunga woman. Jade is well known to our students through her cultural workshops with Year 6 students and her work with our ELC classes.
Our Chapel Choir led the community in a performance of Our Song, while ELC students delighted the audience with their rendition of the Kaurna version of Heads, Shoulders, Knees and Toes, celebrating language and culture in a joyful and engaging way.
Throughout the week, our RAP Junior Group played an important role in recognising National Reconciliation Week. They organised and led a variety of activities in and around the Library, encouraging students to engage with the themes of reconciliation, culture and understanding. The group also led a special Reconciliation-themed Assembly on Friday, providing further opportunities for reflection and learning across the school.
The week also provided an opportunity to share our newly published Reconciliation Action Plan (RAP) with the wider community, marking an important milestone in our ongoing commitment to reconciliation.
The opening gathering encouraged us all to reflect on the National Reconciliation Week theme, “All In,” and consider how we can actively contribute to reconciliation through respect, understanding and meaningful action.
Thank you to all families who joined us throughout the week. Together, we continue to deepen our understanding and commitment as we move forward—all in for reconciliation.
