WONDER COURAGE RESPECT SERVICE

27 Nov

From the Head of Early Years – Sarah Noell

Recently SPW Early Learning Centre had a visit from an authorised officer of the Education Standards Board. “The role of the Education Standards Board is to provide regulation of the provision of education and care services in South Australia, ensuring quality education services and maintaining high standards of competence and conduct by providers.” Education Standards Board

The officer spent the day in our ELC observing and talking with many of our educators. In particular she was addressing the seven quality areas in the National Quality Standards. These standards set a benchmark for the quality of education and care.

The seven National Quality Standards include:

  • Quality Area 1 – Educational program and practice
  • Quality Area 2 – Children’s health and safety
  • Quality Area 3 – Physical environment
  • Quality Area 4 – Staffing arrangements
  • Quality Area 5 – Relationships with children
  • Quality Area 6 – Collaborative partnerships with families and communities
  • Quality Area 7 – Governance and Leadership

The elements in each quality area are bound by national law and regulations. Therefore, in our daily practises we are guided by these to ensure we are offering the best standards to our students and families. Furthermore we have a Quality Improvement Plan (QIP) which identifies our goals and strategies for achieving improvements in the ELC in each of the quality areas. This document is reviewed each term with many improvements having been achieved this year and therefore becoming a strength of our centre. If you would like to see our Quality Improvement Plan, please come to the ELC office.

Your feedback is important to us

We highly value your feedback in all aspects of caring for your children and we analyse this to inform our decision making. Thank you to those families who completed the 2018 Parent Survey via the google form.

Important Dates

The ELC will close for 4 weeks from Monday 17 December 2018 to Friday 11 January 2019. During this time I wish you all a very relaxing and happy holiday period. Our ELC holiday program is looking very exciting with many children attending all the wonderful events planned.

As the year quickly draws to an end I wanted to thank you for welcoming me into the ELC community. I look forward to continuing to build relationships with families in 2019 as your children move through the Early Years at SPW.
