Easter celebrations at SPW were in full swing, a welcomed way to finish out a term that has had its challenges.
Across the school there were Easter arts and crafts, Chapel services, Easter egg hunts, exploring the story of Easter and of course the PFA Easter Raffle.

Chapel Service
This year the students were treated to an Easter Special, a Chapel service presented by the Chapel Choir and Rev’d Andrew and Rev’d Michele. The Year 3 to 6s gathered together in the afternoon, and the Reception to Year 2 service followed afterwards.
It was a chance for the students to celebrate and explore the meaning of Easter. The Chapel Choir demonstrated great leadership and responsibility in essentially running the two services and presenting to the school the Easter Play, ‘You Can’t Have Easter Without…’
The children discovered through music, song and words the real meaning of Easter and gained an understanding of how the many beloved trappings and traditions of Easter like eggs, decorations, lollies, marshmallow chickens and even the Easter Bunny himself, play a role in helping to celebrate the season.
Lastly, the much anticipated Easter Raffle was drawn as well as the Kyton’s Fundraiser Prize. Congratulations to our winners.

Easter Celebrations with Kapara
This year SPW has teamed up with local aged care facility, Kapara Glenelg, to bring a little joy to those residents unable to visit their grandchildren over the Easter break.
The children have been busily preparing Easter baskets and cards to deliver to each of the residents. After all their efforts of cutting, gluing and decorating, an amazing 140 cards/pictures and 140 baskets were delivered to Kapara.
This wonderful initiative gave the students an opportunity to better understand and practice thoughtfulness as well as spread some joy this Easter.
Easter Egg Hunt
There were a few Easter egg hunts on and near the grounds of SPW this week. The ELC children got dressed up for the occasion with some Easter bunny ears and were treated to a little hunt.
Rev’d Michele also came along and spoke with the children about Easter and its origins. With a little basket in hand the children got in some good practice in time for Easter Sunday.
Writing Skills with the Easter Story
Through their work with The Writing Revolution, the Year 1 classes have been learning about the Easter Story, and its significance today.
The strategies used within The Writing Revolution break the writing process down into manageable chunks and give students the opportunity to practice the chunks they need, repeatedly, while also learning content, in this case the Easter Story.
The grammar focus throughout the unit was on nouns, verbs and adjectives, and students worked on expanding simple sentences to include who, what, where and when information taken from the story. Through this work students understanding of the Easter Story was boosted and their opportunities for speaking and listening were enhanced.
