Minton Farm – Save the Animals

This term, the Year 1 students have been learning how to help others through our Service Learning Project.

Minton Farm Animal Rescue Centre 
At the beginning of the term Mrs Sheehy talked to the Year 1 students about Minton Farm Animal Rescue Centre. The centre is a not for profit organisation providing free community service to rehabilitate and release injured and orphaned native animals and birds. The children learned that approximately 300 orphaned and injured animals and birds are housed throughout six acres of onsite facilities.

Spreading Awareness 
Inspired by the wonderful work of the volunteers, the students brainstormed what they could do to also help our injured wildlife. They set about making posters with catchy slogans like, ‘Save the Animals’ and created videos to send home on Seesaw to help bring awareness about our local heroes and asking for food donations.

Food Donations
Our community were very generous and brought in oats, Weet-Bix, sweet biscuits, puree fruit and other food items that will help the volunteers care for the injured or orphaned native animals. Bev from Minton Farm was blown away by the generosity of our Year 1s and their families and the impact these donations will make to the lives of these creatures.
