Celebration Warms Hearts at St Peter’s Woodlands
Students from Reception to Year 2 this term shared a joyful and memorable Grandparents and Special Friends’ Day, celebrating the special role that they play in their lives. The day was filled with learning, laughter, and meaningful connections, as families were welcomed onto the school grounds for a series of thoughtful activities.
Chapel Welcome & Performance
Each year level came together to honor their grandparents in St Margaret’s Chapel. Students contributed to the gathering through songs, readings, and reflections, creating a warm and welcoming atmosphere. The performances highlighted themes of gratitude, family, and the importance of grandparents and special friends in their lives. Many grandparents and special friends commented on how special it felt to see the students show appreciation for the role they play in their lives.
Classroom Visits – Year 2
Classroom visits allowed our visitors to explore learning experiences. Year 2 students focused on technology and how it has changed over time. They were fascinated to discover how different communication and entertainment was in their grandparents’ childhoods. One highlight was a phone interview with a grandparent in South Africa, where students had the opportunity to ask questions about life “back then.”
Classroom Visits – Year 1
Meanwhile, Year 1 students explored the importance of patience and cooperation through games such as Snakes and Ladders. As they played alongside grandparents, students practiced taking turns, following rules, and showing good sportsmanship. The simple, shared activity created moments of connection and gentle learning.
Classroom Visits – Reception
For Reception students, the day was all about hands-on experiences. Their classrooms were filled with activity as they iced biscuits to share, gave gentle hand massages whilst outside the children delighted in bubble blowing. It was a joyful atmosphere as grandparents were reminded of life’s simple pleasures.
Shared Morning Tea
Between each activity morning tea was held outside with thanks to our amazing PFA who provided coffee and a delicious biscuit for children and visitors to enjoy together.
Across all year levels, the day was more than just a celebration—it was an opportunity to strengthen relationships and build understanding between generations. Grandparents and special friends had the chance to step into their children’s school world and share in their learning.
