Introducing The Village

15 March 2024

A welcoming space for parents to connect over their shared journey parenting neurodivergent children.

JOIN US: 10th of April (Wednesday Week 11) at 8.30am in the Library

On Wednesday March 13, the first meeting of the Village was held in the Library. The Village is a new St Peter’s Woodlands initiative lead by Mrs Helen Finlay, Principal and supported by Mrs Sarah Noell, Deputy Principal/Head of Early Years and Steph Eustice, School Psychologist.

The Library provided a welcoming space for parents to connect over their shared journey parenting neurodivergent kids. Neurodiversity is the term that is used to describe differences in the way people’s brains work. Diverse ways of thinking are essential to creating the rich society we live in. This includes recognising the unique strengths as well as the unique challenges that can come with having a brain that processes the world differently. Neurodiversity includes a range of different neurotypes – ADHD, Autism, Dyslexia, Developmental Language Disorder etc. All brains are welcome!

Our first catch up provided families with the opportunity to connect with others who are on a similar journey along with Mrs Finlay shared her experiences of being a parent of a neurodivergent young adult. It was great to see so much knowledge and experience shared through conversation, as well as the understanding that comes when chatting with someone who has walked a similar path.

The Village is a group for parents where the aims of the group are guided by the parents who participate. Our next catch up is on the 10th of April (Wednesday Week 11) at 8.30am in the Library. Please feel welcome to attend!
