Our environmental warriors were hard at work in the holidays.
During the last school holidays members of our Environmental Working Party, together with Mrs Finlay and some of our budding environmental warriors, worked hard doing their bit for the school and the environment.
Armed with rakes, gloves, buckets and spades, it was off to Nature Play to clean up the garden beds, pull out weeds, mulch and prune in preparation for the Year 3 classes taking over responsibility of this garden area from Term 2.
Some students also put together our Ecobin recycling bins, ready for use by some of our classes as we prepare for a gradual roll out across the school.
Since then, our Year 3 classes have been actively using the garden beds. One class has placed mini worm farms in the vegetable garden where they will continue to care for the worms with food scraps and moisture, eventually setting them free in the garden beds to further improve the quality of the soil. While another Year 3 class has planted silverbeet for the chickens, carrots and peas. We can’t wait to watch them grow.
Thank you to all of our volunteers involved in keeping our environment both in school and the surrounding areas in tip top shape!
