Our aim at SPW for PE and Sport is to develop lifelong patterns of physical activity.

In Term 4 each year our Year 7s have the unique opportunity to participate in an electives sporting program. The options this year were sailing, golf and squash.

Students chose an activity they were interested learning more about, then each week for 7 weeks attended an afternoon session led by professional coaches. Starting from the basics students built their skills each subsequent week.

Golf took place at Adelaide Shores Golf Club with resident pro Anne-Marie, Squash at Somerton Squash Centre with Jay, a State Junior Coach, and sailing at Adelaide Sailing Club overseen by Nicci, Sailing Schools Coordinator.

From these experiences we hope the children develop an interest in a new sport. Students are very fortunate to have experiences like this at SPW.

Thank you to Alastair Dow, Head of PE and Sport, for sharing this story.
