Like a Symphony of Stories, Book Week celebrates our unique voices, ideas and imaginations that make our St Peter’s Woodlands community so special.
Book Week was a wonderful opportunity to celebrate reading and storytelling across our school community. Students and staff took part in a range of activities, including sharing stories and meeting authors, while enjoying opportunities to connect through a shared love of books.
The Parade
Although the rain came a little earlier than initially forecast, it did not dampen our Book Week Parade! We were fortunate to parade in the Dr Pamela Wall Centre but certainly missed our adult community sharing this celebration with such a variety of book characters! We were delighted to have our Community Orchestra joining our talented band and Show Choir, leading the school together as we sang, “When I Grow Up” by Tim Minchin based on the book Matilda. Thank you to Mr Delaine for leading this.
It was then time to announce the SPW winner and the CBCA winning book. SPW disagreed with the CBCA judges and voted Derek by Anne Donald as their winner! At the special all school assembly the bookmark and badge design winners were announced, which was then topped off with a whole school dance ably lead by our Dance Group. Thank you to Ms Doyle for your organisation of this fun finish!
Celebrating stories, relationships and the magic of reading
Throughout Book Week, students connected with their buddy classes to share a book or two. These gatherings provided a lovely opportunity for students of different ages to enjoy stories together, build relationships and celebrate the magic of reading.
Meeting Authors
Students enjoyed the opportunity to connect with authors through Zoom sessions organised by Holdfast Bay Libraries. These experiences allowed students to meet authors, learn about their books and discover more about the world of storytelling. Our Reception to Year 2 classes were mesmerised by Andy Lee and his Do Not Open this Book series. Matt Stanton and Jason Pamment worked with Years 3-6 classes on the development of characters and plots. These sessions provided an engaging opportunity for students to hear from authors and further develop their enthusiasm for reading and writing.
Lunchtime Hive
The Library was a hive of activity during lunchtime, with students enjoying a range of creative Book Week activities. Our wonderful Year 5 and 6 Library Leaders and staff supported students with their creations, while books were available for storytelling and shared reading. Just as each story adds something different to our library, we all bring our own strengths and talents, working together to create something truly extraordinary.
