Announcing the 2027 Elaine Balfour Ogilvy Memorial Scholarship Recipient

We are absolutely thrilled to announce Year 5 student Emily as the recipient of the 2027 Elaine Balfour Ogilvy Memorial Scholarship.

This year marked an extraordinary milestone for our award, drawing a record 24 applicants—the highest number in the history of the scholarship. The panel was incredibly impressed by the exceptional calibre, leadership, and community spirit demonstrated across all the applications and interviews by our Year 5 cohort.

A Legacy of Courage and Community
Launched in 1944 and now proudly funded by the St Peter’s Woodlands Old Scholars’ Association, the scholarship stands as a profound tribute to the memory of Lieutenant Elaine Balfour Ogilvy AANS. Elaine, a former Woodlands student, was one of the brave Australian Army nurses who tragically lost her life on Radji Beach following the fall of Singapore in World War II.

While the scholarship originally began as an academic award for finishing students, it has beautifully evolved to support an outstanding St Peter’s Woodlands student heading into their final primary school year, providing a $2,500 subsidy toward their Year 6 tuition fees.

Representing SPW
As this year’s recipient, Emily will carry forward this proud legacy. She will have the distinct honour of representing the school and paying her respects at the 2027 Anzac Day Dawn Service, as well as the annual Bangka Day Memorial Service, held next year on Sunday 16 February 2027 at the Women’s Memorial Playing Fields in St Mary’s.

Celebrating All Applicants
We look forward to celebrating all of our wonderful candidates. Emily, along with all 23  other applicants, will be formally presented with certificates at the upcoming school assembly in Week 5.

Congratulations, Emily, on this incredible achievement! We also extend our deepest commendation to every student who put forth such outstanding effort this year.
